ABOUT BEHESHT-E ZAHRA
In Iran, the body is buried in the ground, and the hole is covered by a stone on the earth. In Tehran, we have 9 cemeteries, 8 of which are very small. The biggest graveyard in Tehran, located to the south of Tehran, “Behesht –e- Zahra” is the largest public graveyard measuring about 534 hectares, with over 1.5 million graves. Including Ayatollah Khomeini’s Mausoleum, as well old royal families to Islamic regime’s members, national artists, poets and athletes, martyrs of the Iran-Iraq war and ordinary people.The national artists, poets and athletes are interred in separate sections. Moreover, one of the largest sections is dedicated to the martyrs of Iran-Iraq war.
A long wall surrounds this place, and the wall consists of rooms as family mausoleums, which are built next to each other. In other words, these row rooms play the role of the wall.
